After one week of googling like crazy to find a decently priced cockpit solution for living room use, I have decided, like so many before me, to go the DIY way. I cannot believe that the cockpit varieties and the overall offer on the market is so scarce. Does no one realize that we have 2 massively popular games in the making and one of those almost out? SC drawing 65 million USD from backers selling ships… and I cannot find anything decent to suit my needs as a casual gamer, aiming for immersion while playing this type of game. It is just puzzling to say the least…
It seems that “casual space sim gamer” and “immersion” are two concepts that don’t fit together (and I refuse to believe this). By casual I mean, not motivated enough to spend a fortune on games & related accessories, not motivated enough to have a room occupied permanently with your space sim cockpit.

You are either:
- A hardcore space sim gamer, willing and able (in terms of both time and money) to immerse in cockpits from around 600 USD up while leaving your cockpit in place for good (and you also have that space available to be occupied). Then you have the optimum positioned control surfaces accommodating various controls, giving you a plane/ spaceship feel in one word: IMMERSION;
- A casual gamer who doesn’t have the luxury nor the intention to permanently occupy a 5ft/5ft area with a space sim cockpit, and also the will and drive to pay 600 USD and above in order to have that space permanently occupied. Then you have your keyboard and mouse resulting in NO IMMERSION.

But anyway, being so frustrated with this situation, I have decided to build myself just the right thing to fit the second category of space sim fans (hopefully). I have been a tinkerer since birth, I always enjoyed building and upgrading stuff with my own hands, although I’m now working in Internet/media industry. I don’t have the time, but the close arrival of the winter holidays gives me confidence that I’ll be able to pull this off somewhere late in January.
Enough talk, let’s set the parameters first (see you tomorrow, now is quite late, but my fuse was lit… I’m going for this…LOL).

Any advice is welcomed, I’d be glad not to reinvent the wheel at every step.

Thank you in advance!
