I'm actually amazed there isn't a 6dof joystick already out there, unless you count the massively expensive 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Pro...

It's largely complete in Inventor but the real designing starts when you have the thing in your hand...

6 Printed parts, a dozen bearings and a few secret stolen parts from some easily available devices.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow and maybe a video once I have the major components printed off.... I'm already thinking about the Kickstarter and my trip to Shenzhen :)

A few goals and essential features to incorporate:

6 Degrees of Freedom in one hand
Intuitive control - forward means forward, turning the stick means that's where you turn, in all planes and rotations
Reliable
Accurate
Comfortable
Standard trigger configuration with room for variations
Easy to home

100% forward thrust lock
Built in USB hub
Deadzone support
Open Source Software
Usable in Vertical mode, ie a stick or horizontal mode, ie a throttle, while retaining 6DOF
Hand agnostic, the thumb controls would be modular so can be switched to left or right hand.

I'm right handed but I see this being most useful in the left hand with right hand mouse aiming.
