Hello,
I've been going back and forth on trying to decide what to do with my system. First, basic specs:
CPU: 4790K (no OC)
RAM: 8GB 1866mhz
PSU: 850W EVGA Gold
GPU: Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 770 4GB
I currently use a 1920x1080 monitor but am planning to get the new Acer XB270HU IPS monitor that does 2560x1440. I know the 770 I have won't hold up for most games at that resolution with settings turned up so when I built my system in the summer I made sure that I accommodated for SLI. Plan was to get another 770 when the time came and be done with it. But, as I've read, SLI brings various issues (heat, energy, microstutter, game support, etc.) as well as not being that effective on Star Citizen. So then considered a 980, but then AMD has a new card coming (thought it was sooner as in this month, turns out to be a bit later as in summer). My options that I've been going back and forth with are:
1) Another GTX 770 4GB for SLI (cost of these seem to vary a lot on ebay. I set the price I'd pay to be <$230)
2) GTX 980 run solo
3) Wait for the AMD card and get either the R9 390 or R9 390x (depending on cost and what they call it), which also opens the door for a potentially cheaper Freesync based monitor
4) Something else entirely
My primary games are Star Citizen (of course), and random time on other games like Tomb Raider, Blacklist, Assassins Creed IV, Watchdogs, and Wing Commander Saga (none of which really require much as much horsepower)
Thoughts, suggestions?
