CR has stated in either the last 10 FTC or the one before that when PU goes live, there will be NPCs walking around working on your other ships and droids running around and even if you have many packages, you could turn them into npcs who have scripted responses.

As for self land, in the gamescon presentation, CR states that the size limitation has been removed. ALL ships can fit in any hangar(that is within size). Also, these hangars are designed for expansion with the room system. doors that are not opening now are like that for a reason. when room is introduced, thos doors will open.
