My current CPU is an Athlon II X425 (2.7 GHz) and so I'm in desperate need for an upgrade. I would like my new CPU to be able to play Star Citizen when it fully comes out on a 1920x1080 display.

Would an i5 4690K be sufficient or should I spend more money now on a respectively clocked i7/Xeon to save money and effort in getting a new CPU in the future?

In addition to Star Citizen I would use my PC for other games alongside some CAD here or there so don't need a lot of cores/hyper-threading besides new, highly threaded games like Star Citizen.
