Hi everyone, I am currently looking for a headset or, as an alternative, great headphones + separate mic.

I have tested some gaming headsets against high quality headphones in the store. I would go with the headphones as the sound was just awesome. However, the headphones did not have surround sound.

What would you recommend for most immersive gameplay? Is surround sound important for a great experience, or could I go with a great stereo headset? actually do not mind if the sound location is not very precise as long as the sound itself is awesome.

If I should go for headphones with great stereo quality then, I already found one. However, if you think that a surround experience is very important for immersion, then I'd be happy for some advice.

So far I have owned a Logitech G35 which had a great sound for my taste. However, due to massive driver issues I switched to a Roccat Kave and right now I just hate the sound. My price range is quite open, just hit me!
